Election of King Stanisław Leszczyński. 12 July 1704.

An assembly of nobility convened in Warsaw on 12 July 1704 as an election Sejm by a Swedish general Arvid Horn declared the Poznań Voivode Stanisław Leszczyński King of Poland. The election took place in the interregnum following the dethronement of King Augustus II on 30 January 1704 by a confederacy of noblemen enjoying the protection of Swedish King Karl (Charles) XII, who had been occupying a big part of Poland’s territory since 1701. The official announcement of Stanisław Leszczyński as King did not come from the Primate of Poland but the Poznań Bishop Stanisław Święcicki who collaborated with the Swedes. The coronation of King Stanisław Leszczyński took place on 4 October 1705.
